Project Cauã adheres to the goals of "Openness".  The project strives to be open in every aspect of what it does.

However pragmatism sometimes is needed to move the project forward. Project Cauã hopes to keep those times at a minimum.

Project Cauã intends on using generic components, with open source device drivers.  If, however, a critical component is close source, particularly if only for a limited time, then Project Cauã may choose to use it.

Project Cauã also intends on publishing all results of the project freely and openly so anyone can use them.  However, in order to call what you are doing "Project Cauã" you will have to follow certain guidelines.  For example, if you use different hardware than what is covered under Project Cauã's approved hardware list, you can not say that you are "Project Cauã".  If you become an SA/E, and try to support a greater number of thin clients than are recommended, you may not say that you are "Project Cauã".  If you base your solution on software not supported by Project Cauã you many not say you are "Project Cauã".  In other words, we are using the brand "Project Caua" as a brand to ensure a certain amount of quality to the solution.

These guidelines of "branding" will be developed over time by the community and the Board of Directors.
