At FISL 12, the largest Free Software event in Brazil, the Project Cauã team is doing a technology demonstration and launch of Project Cauã. The team is demonstrating a portion of the home automation vertical market of Project Cauã, aimed at home theater. This technology is based on xbmc, a Free Software project for home theater, running on top of the Debian distribution of GNU/Linux, and using a powerful fan-less, low-power thin client.

During this time period Project Cauã will be looking for LPIC-2 or LPIC-1 certified Free Software people who would like to own their own business following the Project Cauã model of the Systems Administrator/Entrepreneur (SA/E). It is the intention of Project Cauã to run a pilot project to help the SA/Es start selling and supporting these systems, making a living with Free Software. In this initial period we will be improving the software, finalizing the hardware design, creating the marketing materials and working with the community to reach the level of Project Cauã V1.0 in the time frame of Latinoware in October. At that time we will invite many more LPIC certified Free Software people to join the program and start selling and supporting these units.

As with the philosophy of Project Cauã,, all software and hardware will be detailed on the Project Cauã site. Project Cauã will not create "yet another distribution", but instead automate an installation script to take an existing sample distribution and install it on the hardware.
We should point out that Project Cauã is not just about hardware and software, but is also about business plans, business practices, licensing, customer relationships and many other things that go into making a business. Project Cauã's goals are to make starting and maintaining a business so easy and profitable for the SA/E, that they will go forward and start their own business, then contribute back to the community. We ask that people join the site, contribute responsibly to the discussions, try out the software and hardware, and help us make Project Cauã successful. For those of you who are not LPIC certified, you may purchase the equipment, download the software and have a great home theater system, while learning how to maintain the system for a possible business later.

Project Cauã will be discussed at 1400 hours (2 P.M.) on June 29th at a meeting with the Governor or RS, again on June 30th at a keynote about Project Cauã and its current status, and finally at the closing talk of FISL on July 2nd. The prototype of Project Cauã will be shown on the FISL floor in the organization's booth.
